Classic Banana Bread Recipe

Jump to: VIDEO | Jump to: RECIPE

Banana Bread is one of those classic comfort foods that feels like home in every bite. It’s one of those timeless desserts where an exact recipe doesn't even have to be passed down through generations. Some how a version of the bread finds its way to you using all the classics; flour, eggs, vanilla, butter, and bananas. And yet, its still the one you turn to when you crave something familiar and soothing like home.

I hope this recipe does exactly that for you ❤️

Basic Ingredients

The ingredients for a banana bread are pretty basic. The addition of eggs binds all ingredients together. Baking soda is our leavening agent combined with flour. A whole stick of butter to ensure it comes out moist. And course, our bananas, vanilla extract and additional sugars for the flavor.

What is a Leavener?

A leavening agent, also known as a rising agent, is a substance that causes dough to expand and create volume in our baked goods. It does this by releasing gases in to the dough or batter when mixed with either a liquid, acid, or heat (or a combination of the three in this case! ) The gases then cause the batter or dough to rise as they escape. Fascinating stuff, right?!

Mix Wet Ingredients First

First mix the softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract and sugar and bananas together until they are well creamed together. Then slowly add in your dry ingredients flour, salt, baking soda. Lastly, mix in your desired amount of cinnamon. When doing it this way, you can be sure all the ingredients are well mixed together. This helps avoid bites that have may have clumped up flour, or perhaps an oddly salty tasting spot in the bread. A thoroughly mixed batter is our goal for consistent, moist flavor in every bite!

How Much Cinnamon Should I add?

There is no right or wrong answer to this. I am a huge fan of cinnamon, so I add about 1 tablespoon into my batter. Cinnamon is really the only other ingredient, other than bananas, that is quintessential to making a classic banana bread recipe. With out it, you could add other flavors like blueberries for a Blueberry Banana Bread, or even finely ground espresso for a Coffee Banana Bread!
