Maple Leaves
The most quintessential autumn plant of all time award goes to the maple leaf. Famous for is extraordinary color changes in the fall, maple leaves will add every shade of orange, yellow, red, and brown into your space for a refreshing pop of color.
Pampas Grass
Pampas grass, Cortaderia selloana, is a large perennial grass native to Brazil, Argentina and Chile. The beautiful plant Pampas is considered invasive in parts of Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington, and Florida where it can be found in over grown fields, plots of land and even on the sides of roads or stretches of highway! It typically flowers in late summer, early fall and makes for the perfect dramatic fall decor. Because of its invasive nature in the US, we don't recommend buying fresh if local foraging is unavailable. Instead, try these great pampas grass dupes!
Bromeliads
With vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow, bromeliads add a pop of autumn color. They thrive in humid spaces and can handle low-light conditions, making them ideal for bathrooms.
Cotton
Cotton blooms in late fall and its harvest is very dependent on the first frost of the season. Here in the US, Cotton is another plant where we will have to source a good dupe like this one instead of foraging for the real deal.
Although not an invasive species, cotton has been prohibited by federal law to be grown in many different states. Because cotton is like gold in the textile industry, companies wanted exclusive growing rights for more profits on this plant. It was easy to grow and labor was free at the time... Long story short it became a plant of a revolution. But did you know, the control of cotton growth wasn't regulated until a certain insect was introduced? The Boll Weevil, a fast populating insect and cottons only naturally occurring enemy, was introduced to the US ecosystem and massive amounts of cotton plants became un-harvestable. The Boll Weevil Eradication Equity Act was passed by Congress to help eradicate the boll weevil. In some areas, you need a special waiver from the state's plant board to grow cotton for noncommercial purposes.
Calathea
Calathea plants offer rich foliage with striking patterns in shades of green, purple, and red. These colors fit well with autumn themes, and they thrive in low light and high humidity. This plant is common and can be found in your local nursery year round!
Burgundy Baby's Breath
Another look a like plant to add into your fall plant decor arsenal is baby's breath in the color burgundy. Baby's breath blooms from summer into fall, usually from around June until October. This delicate looking plant fits in naturally to many different styled bathrooms.
